This page contains photos and pedigrees for the foundation animals of Fairlea Farm, who are the progenitors of the original Dragonfly Farm "herd": my first two does, Fairlea Rona and Fairlea Louise ("Meg"), and their early descendants. It doesn't have lots of famous names in it; it's more like a family album, and I had a lot of fun creating it. All of the animals shown here belonged or still belong to my friend Bonnie Chandler of Fairlea Farm.
Southview Farms Rakel
Sire: Stonewall's Black Jack (Goodwood Kupe's Canoe x Goodwood Bedouin)
Dam: Stonewall's Virginia (Stonewall's PGT Beauregard x Stonewall's Chocolate Anna)

5/18/92 - 6/23/03

Rakel was a beautiful doe, long-lived and very productive into her old age. These pictures were taken when she was 10 years old, and her attachments were nearly as tight as ever. She won innumerable RGCH's over the years, as well as 2XGCH at well-attended shows that were not sanctioned with AGS (darn!). It was always fun to hear the judges exclaim over her soundness for her age, and her wonderful dairy character. Rakel was foundation registered, and her pedigree contains some very old names. Rakel is the grandmother of my first two does, Rona and Meg, and Declan's first very own goat, Dragonfly Zoe.

Fairlea Yoni & Fairlea Lydia
Sire: Brush Creek Shiloh +S (Brush Creek Russell x Pine Cone Valley Jolene)
Dam: Southview Farms Rakel (Stonewall's Black Jack x Stonewall's Virginia)

D.O.B. 5/15/94

Rakel's twin daughters Yoni (mother of Meg,) and Lydia (mother of Rona; shown with her daughter by Tom Thumb, MCH Fairlea Heidi) were the first kids produced at Fairlea Farm. Their strengths and weaknesses are complementary, and it is interesting to see how their offspring compare. Yoni's line tends to have more length of body, more dairy character, and be MUCH stronger willed; Lydia's line is more powerful and has superior attachments. Both girls produced offspring with very nice rear angulation, strong toplines, and good depth and width, but in need of straigher front legs and more levelness of rump. And only Yoni's descendents ever seemed to come with moon spots! This is also a pedigree with some very old names in it on both sides. (Also, if anyone can disprove this, please drop me a line, but my research suggests that any Nigerian Dwarf with moon spots is very likely to have descended from Brush Creek Russel.)

MCH Stonewall's Diggory Venn E
Dam: Goodwood Tinkerbelle 5*D (ARMCH Goodwood Kauri Tree +*S x Goodwood Guadalupe 4*D)

D.O.B. 4/2/96

Diggory is a paternal half-brother of the well known Stonewall's Raising Arizona (father of our herd sire, Stonewall's Apocalypse Now). His mother, Tinkerbelle, was a full sister to Tom Thumb. Diggory won GCH or RGCH every time he was shown in the classes as an adult, and his Best of Breed wins included one over his famous grandsire and uncle, ARMCH Goodwood Tom Thumb +*S. Rona and Meg were both sired by Diggory out of Rakel's twin daughters, Yoni and Lydia, so are actually 3/4 sisters. Diggory consistently produces powerful offspring with excellent width and depth, solid toplines, very nice rear angulation, and beautiful heads. His udders have shown nice capacity and texture, and very nice teats.

Show record: 3 x GCH Buck, 3 x Best of Breed, 2 x RGCH Buck

extended pedigree

Fairlea Rona
Sire: MCH Stonewall's Diggory Venn (Stonewall's Longstreet x Goodwood Tinkerbelle)
Dam: Fairlea Lydia (Brush Creek Shiloh +S x Southview Farms Rakel)
DOB 4/5/97

Rona was my first goat, and has a lovely personality. She had a very tough kidding in 2003, and we are grateful she is still with us, though her huge single buck kid didn't survive. I only have these baby pictures of her at the moment, but they do show a little of her interesting color; when I first owned her, I thought she was red and white, but as I have increased my copper supplementation, her red has deepened and black points have emerged, so that she almost appears to be a chamoisee or abbreviated buckskin. Rona is the dam of Fairlea Ariadne, the first kid born here. Rona is retired from breeding, and has gone to live with our friends at the Cheshire Barn School.

Fairlea Louise (Meg)
Sire: MCH Stonewall's Diggory Venn (Stonewall's Longstreet x Goodwood Tinkerbelle)
Dam: Fairlea Yoni (Brush Creek Shiloh +S x Southview Farms Rakel)
DOB 4/10/98

My son named her Megara when she arrived, so Meg it is. Meg doesn't "do" show poses, so you just have to take what she gives you. At 6 after 5 freshenings, her udder was still high and well attached. Her udder was lacking in the area of the fore, with a significant shelf, and also lacked lateral attachment, which is notable mostly because it is remarkable how much both Paco and Maestro were able to improve on these features. Meg was accustomed to watching t.v. with her former owner in the evening. It took me a while to figure out why she would stand in the pasture and call (read: holler at the top of her lungs) every night after dinner. . . Undisputed herd queen and consistent producer of kids better than herself, Meg was the dam of MCH Dragonfly Calliope *D E, Dragonfly Penelope, Dragonfly M Skylark E, and Dragonfly M Artemis. We lost Meg to an accident this year--2006--she will be missed.

extended pedigree

ARMCH Fairlea Heidi *D 'E' 90.9
Sire: ARMCH Goodwood Tom Thumb (ARMCH Goodwood Kauri Tree +*S x Goodwood Guadalupe 4*D)
Dam: Fairlea Lydia (Brush Creek Shiloh +S x Southview Farms Rakel)
1998 2004
June, 2004
June, 2005

DOB 7/29/95

Bonnie's first homebred champion, Heidi, is the mother of Fairlea Clio. She loves the show ring, and was delighted when Bonnie brought her out of retirement in 2003. She knows and loves her job, stacks herself, and awaits applause from her adoring public!

Show record: 3 x GCH, 1 x RGCH, multiple Best of Breed, uncountable Best Udder; Best Doe in Show at the ANDDA Nigerian Specialty at the 2005 AGS National Show Convention at the age of nearly 10 years.

extended pedigree

MCH Fairlea Gabriel Oak
Sire: ARMCH Goodwood Tom Thumb +*S (ARMCH Goodwood Kauri Tree x Goodwood Guadalupe 4*D)
Dam: Southview Farms Rakel (Stonewall's Black Jack x Stonewall's Virginia)

DOB 4/15/01

Gabriel was the result of Rakel's second to last kidding. He is the father of Dragonfly Zoe, who is therefore a linebreeding on Rakel. Zoe will be our first Gabriel daughter to freshen. This picture was taken at one year.

Show record: 1 x GCH Buck, 4 x RGCH Buck, 1 x JrGCH Buck

extended pedigree

Jumby Hill Farm's Rose 'E' 91.6
Sire: Rosasharn's Oklahoma (ARMCH Goodwood Tom Thumb +*S x ARMCH Stonewall's Little Luli *D)
Dam: Rosasharn's Buttercup (ARMCH Goodwood Tom Thumb +*S x ARMCH Rosasharn's Baby Bella *D)

DOB 3/30/98

Because of her history before she came to us, Rose was a 5 year old second freshener this year when she entered the show ring for the first time. That always raised the judges' eyebrows, but didn't stop many of them from awarding her first in her class. Rose is the dam of Winterfield Rianna and Winterfield Niobe.

Show record: 3 x 1st
