Celestial is
that rarity, a truly show quality mature doe for sale from a show
herd. Her udder has some very strong points, notably that it is
high and wide in the rear, with strong medial and laterals, and
a very well extended foreudder. In addition she is a strong and
persistant milker--on her second test at 91 days fresh she milked
4.3 pounds, less than a 10% drop from her first test at 40 days.
She has a soft collapsible udder with large wide teats and huge
orifices. In the show ring as a dry yearling she was never beaten
in her class and won her junior leg over a typical New England
entry of 40 or so other juniors, with consistently positive comments
on her dairy character and general appearance. Her pedigree is
outstanding as well; she is sired by one of my most consistent
bucks, a son of the great Luck ofthe Draw, and she is out of one
of my Top Ten milkers
So if she is
such a paragon, why am I selling her? It's her teat placement...both
teats point forward, and not for the usual reason (a poor rear
attachment), but because they are actually placed too far forward.
In addition the right teat is a bit wild and heads off to the
side a bit. As such I don't think she will be a finished champion
in New England, and I have too many other that I have higher hopes
for. Still, I think she has a lot to offer to someone's breeding
program.
Celestial made the AGS Top Ten list in 2012 for protein with 39 pounds. Yay, Celeste!
Sale pending;
thanks AnnMarie!!
