Stella died peacefully in her sleep at nearly 15 years old; I will miss you, you old cuss.
I was very happy to
be able to purchase Stella--thanks to Kim Steele of Steele
Ballew and to Sunni Florence of Flat
Rock Farms for making it possible! While feeding her 2006
buckling, she was giving me almost 5 pounds per day at one point--and
then this doe just did not want to stop milking. At 4 months fresh
with once per day milking she gave a steady 2 pounds per day. I
don't know what she would have done if I had not skipped milking
her for 2 weeks before that, thinking she would dry off. In 2007,
she did show us what she can do; on her first official test day,
Stella milked 7.7 pounds. My tester said that if she was not there
to see it, she would not have believed it. (The udder photos below
are from that day; so there's about 3.8 pounds of milk in that udder.
Amazing.) Stella has several beautiful daughters, including Steele
Ballew Sweetheart (1 x GCH in milk; udder shot here),
owned by Pride of Texas, and Steele Ballew Romance (1 x RGCH in
milk). We
have retained her daughter Celestial,
by Hunk, and hope for many more.
Show
record: 4 x GCH, 4 x RGCh, 4 x Best Udder
Kidding
record (since we owned her): 2006, single
buck by Rio; 2007, quads
by Hunk, 2 does, 2 bucks; 2008, triplet bucks
by Hunk, 2010, twin does by Tuan; 2012, buck/doe twins by Solaris (did not survive).
