A lovely
doe by an outstanding buck (whom I expect to be a force to reckon
with in New England when all his kids from 2005 are mature). This
doe shows the high withers and very uphill profile characteristic
of Johnny Jump Up descendants like our Apocalypse Now daughters.
Chai is one of my favorite personalities; she absolutely loves
being a dairy goat. She also taught me that you just don't show
goats with unclipped wattles, even though I think they are cute.
("What are those, pom pom earrings!!??") Her udder is
a pretty shape and well attached, and an improvement on her dam's.
It is hard to keep remembering that she is only a 2 year old second
freshener and not be impatient for her to achieve her mature capacity,
but I do think she has good fundamentals and a lot of potential.
For logistical reasons, Chai was dried off early in her lactation
in 2007, but her high test day was a very reasonable 3.3
pounds and I will be expecting more from her in 2008. Bred to
Appomattox; due April,
2008.
